One of the most common misconceptions regarding rattan furniture is that it’s a high maintenance material, with strict and meticulous care instructions which must be diligently undertaken routinely…this is simply not the case! Rattan bed frames are one of the easiest to clean and maintain, especially when comparing it to some upholstered beds, and even solid wood bed frames. As a lightweight material, it is easy to move around your bedroom to ensure you’re cleaning every nook and cranny and is very straightforward to clean and maintain.

Some items that you may find useful to help clean your new rattan bed frame:
- A microfibre cloth;
- The upholstery brush extension of your household hoover;
- Mild washing liquid;
- Linseed oil.
Dust Your Bed Frame Regularly
To keep your rattan furniture looking and feeling fresh, ensure you wipe over regularly with a soft cloth – a microfibre cloth will work wonders! Rattan furniture, and particularly rattan beds, can build up with dusts and other fibres really quickly, particularly from bedding. There is no need to use polish on your luxury bed and be sure to never use abrasive creams.
Brush Headboards Gently
In order to remove any dust or dirt, you can gently brush the frame – either with a bristled duster or with the bristle attachment on your vacuum cleaner. It will allow you to get into any hard-to-reach cracks and crevices which come as standard on the elaborate and interwoven rattan design, and this critical process will gather any hidden dust.
Don’t Soak Your Rattan Bed
It is important to regularly clean your rattan bed to avoid a build up of mildew, however be sure not to soak your gorgeous bed as this could ruin it. You can use a mild washing liquid with warm water to gently wipe down your bed frame. To prevent the rattan from becoming cracked, we recommend applying boiled linseed oil once a year with a brush. When the furniture stops absorbing the oil, gently buff it clean with a soft cloth. Allow it to dry or harden before using your bed again – this will moisturise and protect the natural rattan fibres, ensuring it lasts much longer.
Rotate Your Furniture
Although it may seem inconvenient, if possible, try to rotate your rattan bed on a regular basis. Rattan fibres are known to fade in strong light, and although this is a natural process, it can begin to look uneven. It is also an exciting opportunity to test new layouts and master your inner Feng Shui – just be sure not to drag your furniture across the floor.
Keep Humidity Levels To An Optimum
Rattan furniture does not fare well in overly dry or excessively moist environments. Try not to put your gorgeous luxury bed near anywhere of excess heat, for example the radiator or fire, as this could warp the wood and dry it out. The same goes for an excess of moisture too. Too much moisture in the air can cause rattan to become brittle and damaged, so be wary of this when deciding where to place your new rattan bed frame.
